Streator, Illinois — On this day, our community pauses to remember a child whose life was taken far too soon, and a case that remains without resolution.
Dalton Mesarchik was just 7 years old when he disappeared from his neighborhood in Streator — a moment that quickly turned ordinary concern into a full-scale search effort. Neighbors, friends, and law enforcement came together, united by one goal: bring Dalton home safely.
By the next day, that hope was gone.
Dalton was found deceased, the victim of a homicide that shook this community to its core. For many, the memory of that time remains vivid — the search, the heartbreak, and the unanswered questions that have lingered ever since.

Years later, those questions remain.
Despite investigative efforts and continued attention from law enforcement, no arrest has been made. Dalton’s case is still open, and with each passing year, the need for answers becomes no less urgent for those who loved him — and for a community that has never fully let go.
Anniversaries like today are not just about looking back. They are a reminder that justice has not yet been served.
Investigators have long emphasized that even the smallest detail could matter. What may have seemed insignificant at the time — a passing comment, a strange sight, a fleeting memory — could hold new meaning today. As time passes, perspectives change, and people may feel more able to come forward.
Someone knows something.
For Dalton’s family, today is deeply personal — a marker of loss, but also of enduring love. For Streator, it is a moment to stand together once again, not only in remembrance, but in resolve.
Resolve to keep Dalton’s name alive.
Resolve to support those still seeking justice.
Resolve to speak up, if there is anything left to say.
